The Great Neck Library will reopen its Lakeville and Station branches next week as New York state eases restrictions following the COVID-19 outbreak.

They will be open by appointment only.

Tracy Van Dyne, acting director of the Great Neck Library, said that things have been very busy since the Main Library opened last week for appointment only.

“We’re moving forward a little at a time,” Van Dyne said during the Great Neck Library Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday. “Our patrons have been very good with everything that’s going on.”

Curbside pickup and other services are now available from Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Main Library and Parkville Branch.

As per CDC guidelines, all returned items are to be quarantined for 72 hours before being checked in and re-shelved. Fines will continue to be waived at this time.

During the meeting on Tuesday night, the Great Neck Library Board of Trustees also appointed Michelle Minervini as the new head of the Children’s Department and voted to approve Sunday/holiday hours for the coming fiscal year.

The position had been vacant since Deidre Goode died in May.

As part of the discussion, the board has proposed closing the library for three additional holidays — Easter, Rosh Hashana and Mother’s Day.

According to Van Dyne, the library normally has a difficult time with staffing during these holidays.

Following some discussion, the board voted to approve the holiday hours on the condition that members will continue the discussion at their next special meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
