A Great Neck man was arrested for a failed Tuesday night burglary, police said, which resulted in no injuries and no possessions taken.

According to police, Kevin Avalos-Melendez, 21, a Middle Neck Road resident, approached the back of a Beach Road residence and cut through a bedroom window screen to try gaining entry.

A 64-year-old man who heard the noise then contacted the police, detectives said.

Officers said they then saw the alleged burglar in the rear of the house and tried speaking with him before he fled. They soon located him along Middle Neck Road and placed into custody at 12:57 a.m., police said.

Avalos-Melendez is charged with burglary in the second degree. He was arraigned Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017 in the First District Court at 99 Main Street in Hempstead.

As of 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, no attorney or plea are listed for Avalos-Melendez.
