A Great Neck man was arrested last Wednesday after the van he was driving struck a pedestrian in Manhasset and he then left the scene, Nassau County police said.
Police said Hossein Zamani, 77, of Redbrook Road, was driving a 2005 Honda Odyssey van north on Community Drive near Pond Hill Road at 4:43 p.m. when he struck a 68-year-old man trying to cross the street.
Zamani, police said, fled the scene, but about returned one hour later and was placed under arrest.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he is listed in serious condition with internal injuries, police said.
A spokesman for the Nassau district attorney’s office said Zamani was arraigned at Nassau University Medical Center.
He requested to be taken to the hospital upon his arrest, but police said they did not have further information on why.
Zamani is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury.
He is due back in court on Feb. 3, 2017.
