Representatives from the North Middle School Student Council kicked off the district’s participation in the Valentines for Veterans campaign on Jan. 17. This campaign supports local veterans by delivering handmade cards and donated items to the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook and the Northport VA Medical Center.

The Great Neck Public Schools is proud to participate in this program year after year. Students and staff volunteer their time during free periods and after school to create handmade greeting cards for local veterans.

The kick-off event at North Middle included a visit from New York State Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso and Vietnam veteran Jack Hirsch. Both guests shared their own personal stories of hope and courage during wartime, and they reiterated the importance of expressing appreciation for our veterans and the sacrifices they have made for our country.
