North Middle School sixth grader Clara Goldman received First Place in the Nassau Reading Council’s Annual Young Authors Contest.

Clara was invited to read her winning essay, titled “The Small Package,” during the Young Authors’ Celebration on June 4 at Molloy College. She was joined by her family, her sixth-grade English teacher, Kathleen Marks, and her fourth-grade teacher, Sheri Lederman.

Clara’s essay will be printed in the 2017-2018 edition of the contest book, published by the Nassau Reading Council.

The Nassau Reading Council’s Young Authors Contest is open to public, private, and parochial students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Entries are judged by a committee and evaluated for content, authenticity, voice, focus, organization, and mechanics. Winning entries are selected by grade level. This year’s competition included 700 entries from more than 60 schools.
