The Great Neck school district was ranked as the top school district in New York by Niche, joining six others from the North Shore among the top 25.
Aside from Great Neck, other area school districts that were featured on the Niche list were Roslyn (No. 3), Manhasset (6), Herricks (7), North Shore Central (17), East Williston (24) and Port Washington (25). The Mineola school district came in as the 122nd ranked district on the list.
Nationally, the Great Neck school district was ranked as the third-best district, with Roslyn (No. 7), Manhasset (19), Herricks (29), North Shore Central (69), East Williston (96) and Port Washington (100) also featured in the list of the top 100 school districts.
There were also eight high schools featured in the top 50 in the state, according to the Niche list. Great Neck South High School (No. 6) led the way, followed by Roslyn High School (10), Manhasset Secondary School (11), Great Neck North High School (13), Herricks High School (14), Paul D. Schreiber Senior High School (29), North Shore Senior High School (39) and the Wheatley School (40).
“This is a wonderful recognition for our entire school community,” Great Neck Superintendent Teresa Prendergast said in a statement. “It is especially rewarding in light of the challenges schools have faced during this pandemic. We are tremendously proud of our students, our dedicated staff, and the exceptional programs we offer for our learners in Pre-K through grade 12 and beyond.”
“We are delighted that the Herricks School District continues to receive accolades and high rankings from national publications,” Herricks Superintendent Fino Celano said in a statement. “We are very proud of our students, who consistently achieve high levels of success in many areas. This is a tribute to our engaged and motivated students, caring teachers and administrators, and a dedicated board of education.”
“The district always appreciates recognition of its efforts for all our students and recognition of the many types of success our students achieve,” East Williston Superintendent Elaine Kanas said in a statement.
Efforts to reach other school districts for comment were unaviling.
Niche is a site where places to live, graduate schools, colleges, K-12 schools and scholarships are ranked. The site uses data scientists to analyze a variety of factors and statistics to make the lists each year. Factors taken into account while making the rankings include academics, teachers, clubs and activities, diversity, college preparation courses, and health and safety.
