The Great Neck Public Schools is pleased to announce that the music programs at North High and South High have been recognized for excellence through the 2018 High School Recognition Program, sponsored by the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
The LIMHoF School Recognition Program identifies Long Island High School music programs that are creating notable music experiences for their students while incorporating the National and New York State Standards for The Arts in creative and meaningful ways.
“The role of music educators in our society is to be admired as they nurture and develop the talents of young people through their work in schools,” said LIMHoF Education Committee Chair Tom Needham. “We’re grateful for the commitment these programs have demonstrated on a personal and professional level.”
Following an extensive application process, the Hall of Fame has selected a total of seven Long Island high schools for this year’s program. Honorees were evaluated based on program details, inclusion of national and state standards for music in curriculum, facility, staffing, and community and board support. Applications were reviewed by a panel of music educators, some of whom have been recognized as LIMHoF “Educators of Note.”
