The Town of North Hempstead’s animal shelter in Port Washington would get $772,262 worth of funding for improvements over the next five years under the town’s 2019-2023 capital improvement plan.

Most of those projects would occur in the 2019 fiscal year.

The town did not get a requested grant from the New York state Department of Agriculture and Markets for shelter improvements, according to a town spokesperson.

The capital plan’s proposed shelter projects for next year include new outdoor kennels, heating, ventilation and air conditioning replacement and the installation of an air exchange. Those three improvements are projected to cost $422,262.

The plan also includes a $100,000 waste pump replacement for the 2020 fiscal year.

Each of the five years would have an additional $50,000 for extra improvements.

The town council will vote on the Capital Improvement Plan on Dec. 18.
