Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D-Great Neck) recently secured a grant from the county’s Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax fund to support the programming of the Great Neck-based Gold Coast Arts Center.

Grant funding was approved by the Nassau County Legislature on Monday, Oct. 26, and will be utilized to reinforce the infrastructure of the organization following its shift to a blend of virtual and online courses amidst the pandemic.

“We are grateful to Legislator Ellen Birnbaum and the entire Nassau County Legislature for its support of Gold Coast Arts Center,” Regina Gil, founder and executive director of the center, said. “Since our founding 25 years ago, we have provided arts education to over 100,000 children throughout the region. This grant helps ensure that children in our programs will continue to have access to the arts.”

“Throughout the pandemic, cultural organizations ranging in size from the grandest Broadway theaters to local community institutions like the Gold Coast Arts Center have experienced unprecedented challenges,” Birnbaum said. “Not only do these organizations enrich our culture and brighten our lives, they bolster our local economy by attracting visitors to our community. I thank my colleagues for their support of this grant and applaud the team at the Gold Coast Arts Center for their ongoing efforts to bring the arts to our community.”
