A gas station in Great Neck was robbed early Monday after a man threw a large cinder block through the front door, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

According to officials, a white male, approximately 35 years old, smashed the front glass door of the BP gas station at 133 Cuttermill Road at 2 a.m. Monday. Officials said the man entered the gas station and demanded money.

The cashier, a 63-year-old male, was then thrown onto the floor by the suspect, who grabbed the cash register from the counter and ran out of the station, officials said. The suspect entered the passenger side of a blue Chevrolet sedan and fled, according to the police.

The suspect is described as having short dark hair, a thin build, approximately 6 feet tall, and wearing a black hat, black jacket and dark jeans, the police said.  Officials did not report any information on other people involved or any injuries.

Efforts to reach officials from the Police Department for further information were unavailing.

A representative of the gas station declined to comment.

Anyone with information about the robbery was asked to call 1-800-244-TIPS.
