Josie Pizer ended her independent bid to join the Great Neck Library’s Nominating Committee, Interim Library Director Tracy Geiser announced on Wednesday, leaving Cheng Carey Ye uncontested.
This also means that there are currently no more contested races for leadership positions in the Great Neck Library.
Geiser said via email that no reason was given for Pizer’s decision.
The elections will determine who fills two seats on the library’s board of trustees, whose responsibilities include approving appointments, developing a strategic plan and overseeing management of the library and its programs.
Two seats on the Nominating Committee are also up for grabs. Their main responsibility is to vet and recommend candidates for positions. Ultimately, the Board of Trustees has the final decision on appointments.
Pizer, a former library board trustee, would have been placed against Cheng Carey Ye, who was endorsed by the Nominating Committee, in the race for Marie Franzoni’s expiring seat on the committee.
Sam Gottlieb, who was also endorsed by the Nominating Committee, is the lone candidate for Omer Soykan’s committee seat.
Their terms would be three years, lasting from January 2018 to 2021.
Dr. Barry Smith was nominated by the committee to run for the expiring trustee seat of Michael Fuller, while Weihua Yan, Ye’s husband, was nominated to run for the expiring trustee seat of Marietta DiCamillo.
Their terms would last from January 2018 to 2022.
In order to vote, one must be at least 18 years old, a resident of the Great Neck School District and either a valid library cardholder by Oct. 2 or a registered voter with the Nassau County Board of Elections.
Elections are on Oct. 30. Residents living north of Northern Boulevard can vote at the main library at 159 Bayview Ave., Great Neck, while residents living south of Northern Boulevard can vote at the Parkville Branch Library on 10 Campbell St. in New Hyde Park.
