An East Rockaway man was charged with embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from his time as chief financial officer and controller at a condiments company previously located in Great Neck, according to a release from the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.
Barry Rosner, 64, was employed at Old Dutch Mustard/USA Vinegar, which has since moved to New Hampshire after being located in Great Neck.
Rosner, according to the complaint, had a close professional relationship with the co-founder of the company, until his death in 2015.
Rosner allegedly began embezzling roughly $2,000 to $4,000 from the company through wires tied into his personal banking account months after the company’s co-founder died, according to the release.
Rosner continued to embezzle funds from the company, increasing the wire transactions, officials said. In 2018, Rosner would transfer approximately around $10,000 or more on a monthly basis.
After an investigation was launched, financial statements showed Rosner spent the embezzled funds on clothing, dining, credit card bills, golf outings, and a beach cabana, officials said. In 2019, Old Dutch Mustard/USA Vinegar hired outside accounts and unearthed the fraudulent transactions and confronted Rosner, according to DA.
After the outside accountants confronted Rosner, the company later terminated him and notified the alleged misconduct to the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office.
Rosner was arraigned on Tuesday and faces one count of second-degree grand larceny and eight counts of falsifying business records in the first-degree, according to the release. If convicted, Rosner faces anywhere from five to 15 years in prison, officials said.
Efforts to reach a representative from the district attorney’s office, or Rosner’s reported attorney Steven Harfenist for comment on the matter were unavailing.
Officials said Rosner, who was released on his own recognizance on Tuesday, is due back in court on July 12.
Prior to its’ move to New Hampshire, the company was reportedly located at 98 Cuttermill Road in Great Neck Plaza.
