FCA is offering senior programs remotely in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Family and Children’s Association will receive a $139,209 grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to support their new Newcomers Resource Center, the FCA announced in a statement on Tuesday, March 10.

The Newcomers Resource Center, according to the press release, will “provide struggling young immigrants with greater access to the necessary services needed to begin and build their lives for not only themselves but also their families in their new home on Long Island.”

The Town of Hempstead-based FCA is a nonprofit organization that has worked to protect vulnerable populations on Long Island for the past 135 years.

The launch of the Newcomers Resource Center is a response to the growing need for services for immigrant and refugee populations. It will offer legal guidance, case management and referral services, counseling, school advocacy, vocational training, educational training and short-term childcare, according to the FCA.

The Lynn Vanderhall Nursery Co-op, part of the Newcomers Resource Center, will allow parents to attend classes and receive other FCA services while knowing that their children are in a safe, nurturing, educational environment, according to the statement released on March 10.

The center’s bilingual program staff allow the FCA to meet the needs of Spanish-speaking community members.

The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation provides grants to improve the health of vulnerable communities in New York State and eliminate barriers to care.

Monsignor Gregory Mustaciuolo, Chief Executive Officer of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, stated, “Mother Cabrini spent her life devoted to those who faced the greatest struggles, and the Foundation named in her honor is proudly carrying on her legacy.”

The Mother Cabrini grant will allow the FCA to offer the above-mentioned services beginning immediately.

“We are grateful for the support of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation,” FCA President and CEO Jeffrey Reynolds said. “We look forward to seeing life-changing opportunities present themselves for these families within the Newcomers Resource Center with the support of this great foundation.”
