The Great Neck Library Board of Trustees held its annual reorganization meeting Tuesday, officially appointing new members and bidding outgoing members farewell.

Former board President Marietta DiCamillo, former Vice President Francine Ferrante-Krupski, and former Assistant Treasurer Michael Fuller all received certificates from incoming President Robert Schaufeld.

“The departure of Marietta, Michael and Francine represents a major change to this board,” Schaufeld said. “They have individually and collectively been a driving force for the betterment of the Great Neck Library. They will be missed and will leave a void that will be felt for some time.”

Schaufeld said he would miss Ferrante-Krupski’s expertise, Fuller’s sense of humor and DiCamillo’s concern for library board members and staff.

Three outgoing members of the Nominating Committee also received certificates: Marie Franzoni, who was not in attendance, Omer Soykan and Marianna Wohlgemuth.

After the certificates were handed out, Schaufeld introduced Denise Corcoran as the new library director. The board voted to appoint Corcoran to that position at its Jan. 16 meeting, filling a post that had been empty since the board fired the previous director, Kathy Giotsas, in the spring of 2017.

Corcoran’s first day as director will be Feb. 1.

“Denise, I’m so excited that you decided to join our library,” said DiCamillo. “Under your direction, this library is going to really take off.”

Once the three former board members moved from their seats around the table to seats in the audience, the board went ahead with appointing members to leadership positions.  Schaufeld was approved as president, Rebecca Miller was approved as vice president and Weihua Yan was approved as secretary. Josie Pizer was named treasurer and Joel Marcus and Barry Smith were named assistant treasurers.

All leadership positions will be held until the next reorganization meeting on Jan. 29, 2019. The Board of Trustees’ next meeting will be Feb. 27.
