Great Neck Plaza officials postponed a scheduled hearing for Vigilant Fire Company’s fire and ambulance contracts with the village on Wednesday, in response to an incoming snowstorm.
“Due to the impending storm and its possible severity, the Village of Great Neck Plaza is cancelling the Wednesday, March 7 Board of Trustees meeting,” the village’s website says. “The next Board of Trustees meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 21 at 8 p.m.”
The $2,875,660 budget, which is $15,913 – or 0.55 percent – higher than last year’s budget, provides ambulance service to seven Great Neck villages, including Great Neck Plaza, as well as the Town of North Hempstead. It also provides fire services to four Great Neck villages in addition to the town.
Under the proposed 2018 fire and ambulance budget from Vigilant, Great Neck Plaza would pay $929,295 for its share of services – nearly a third of the fire company’s total budget.
The bulk of the cost would go paying for fire services, worth $802,963 in 2018 for Great Neck Plaza, while the ambulance contract is worth $126,332 for the village.
Great Neck Plaza would pay $77,441.25 to Vigilant Fire Company on the 10th of each month between January and December, according to the contract, which lasts from Jan. 1, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2018. The village’s contract with Vigilant would be retroactive to January if approved.
Great Neck Estates would pay $741,058 – the second most overall. The budget calls for $641,971 for fire services and $99,087 for ambulance services.
The Town of North Hempstead pays $380,094 into the budget, with $289,944 going towards the fire contract and $90,150 going towards ambulance services.
The Village of Great Neck, which receives fire service from Alert Fire Company, would pay $261,862 for ambulance services from Vigilant Fire Company – more than any other municipality the company serves.
Kensington would pay $22,491 for fire services and $37,917 for ambulance, totaling $258,408.
Kings Point would pay $217,177 for ambulance services.
Thomaston would pay $34,626 for fire services and $6,160 for ambulance service, while Saddle Rock would pay $28,980 for ambulance services.
Other matters on Great Neck Plaza’s agenda included a change in ownership for Be Your Chef, a new restaurant on Cutter Mill Road, a lease with the Long Island Rail Road and authorizing the Great Neck Memorial Day parade through the village on May 28, 2018.
