After a grand opening ceremony Tuesday evening, HSBC Bank is ready for business in downtown Great Neck.

HSBC’s branch manager, Supriya Jagnanan said, “We love Great Neck. The residents here wish to have the downtown thrive, and we are so excited to be part of that.”

The bank features two full-serviced ATMs, along with two high-definition televisions and even a robotic banking assistant named Pepper.

“Pepper’s rollout is part of a larger vision to transform HSBC’s branch banking experience,”  Jeremy Balkin, head of innovation at HSBC, said in a news release. “This will take the franchise in an exciting new direction.”

The opening featured public figures such as Mayor Jean Celender of Great Neck Plaza and county Legislator Ellen Birnbaum (D-Great Neck).

“This will only add to the regrowth of great business with excellent service that Great Neck provides its residents,” Celender said.

The bank, located on the corner of Middle Neck Road and Grace Avenue, replaced Lonny’s, a boutique store that called the location home for around three decades.

“What an incredible location,” Birnbaum told the crowd outside. “This not only shows what great locations businesses that come her can have, but it contributes to the vibrant downtown area that Nassau County needs.”

Though HSBC joins a long list of banks on Middle Neck Road, it was one that the village was eyeing for sometime.

“We’ve had plans to have our next location in Great Neck for some years now,” Jagnanan said, “but we are so lucky to have waited for a great spot such as this to call home.”
