A man from Amityville was sentenced on Tuesday to 20 years for sexually assaulting and robbing two Great Neck area women at knifepoint, the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office announced on Thursday.

A jury convicted Levar Burton, 25, of multiple felonies, including robbery as a sexually motivated felony, robbery in the first degree, sexual abuse in the first degree and attempted sexual abuse in the first degree on May 23.

“The predator attempted to take the dignity of his victims by assaulting them at knifepoint in the early morning hours,” Nassau County DA Madeline Singas said. “Because these courageous victims reported the attacks and testified at trial, they ensure that he will spend many years in prison for these despicable crimes.”

According to prosecutors, a 49-year-old woman walking home from work in Kings Point on Feb. 27, 2017 at 5:30 a.m. was approached from behind by Burton, who demanded money and was armed with the knife.

Then, according to prosecutors, he took her behind the house, groped her chest, unbuttoned her jeans and stole $200 from her.

Burton then allegedly told the victim to wait and promise she wouldn’t call the police.

Later, on March 7 at 5 a.m., prosecutors said a 39-year-old woman on her morning walk on Middle Neck Road in Great Neck was approached by Burton, once more armed with a knife and demanding money.

Prosecutors said the victim had no money, so Burton took her two cell phones to a nearby synagogue where police found them. He then sexually assaulted her, prosecutors said.

Burton was supposed to be delivering newspapers in Great Neck and Kings Point at the time, prosecutors said.

The Nassau County Police Department and Kings Point Police Department assisted in the investigation.

Burton is also awaiting trial on a separate incident, a spokeswoman with the District Attorney’s Office said.

According to Nassau County police, Burton kidnapped a 21-year-old woman in West Hempstead on Dec. 27, 2016 at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her. He is charged with kidnapping in the second degree, rape in the first degree, and sexual abuse in the first degree in that case.
