The Mann Charitable Foundation is hosting its 10th annual golf outing at Fresh Meadow Country Club in Lake Success on Sept. 11, paying special tribute to those who lose their lives in the terror attacks while raising money for research into cures for various diseases.

Previously, the foundation has hosted various dinners, outings and gala events to raise money for research for geriatric diseases and Alzheimer’s Disease. This year, they are expanding this to include Crohn’s Disease, liver cancer and breast cancer.

Jeff Mann, the director of the Mann Charitable Foundation, said various charities and personal experience influenced this change. He said his wife had breast cancer, for example, while a close colleague needed a liver transplant.

“I’m very sensitive to what’s going on,” Mann, whose two brothers live in Kings Point, said in an interview.

The Mann Charitable Foundation was founded 20 years ago in honor of Irving and Marion Mann, the latter of whom died from Alzheimer’s disease. More than 5 million Americans have the ailment, according to the non-profit Alzheimer’s Association.

Prior to the start of an 18-hole golf tournament and honoree ceremony, where three business executives will be honored, Mann said one of the Great Neck fire departments will give special tribute to those in the area lost on 9/11.

Organizers also described the event as high end, featuring a “South Beach-style” dinner with top-shelf cocktails, fresh-caught lobster, steak and a raw bar. Afterward they will be honoring Joanne Podell, the executive vice chairman of Cushman and Wakefield, Bruce Madnick, chief executive officer emeritus of Friedman LLP and Gabriel Hernandez, business manager of Design Republic.

The area will be draped in red, white and blue signage and balloons, as well as small American flags at the putting greens.

“It’s an event that we’re very proud to be putting on and the excitement is continuously building,” Mann, a longtime member of the Fresh Meadow Country Club, said. “Our guests are helping to raise money for a great cause at a great venue.”
