The Lake Success-based health provider ProHEALTH Care launched a charitable initiative to raise $100,000 for a non-profit agency helping homeless women and children this month, pledging $1 for every visit to its Urgent Care locations.

For every visit to one of its Urgent Care locations during June, the organization pledged to donate $1 to Bethany House, a non-profit on the South Shore providing transitional housing and programs for the homeless in Nassau County.

“Supporting a local charity that aligns with our mission further helps us keep our promise to the community,” said Dr. Zeyad Baker, the president and CEO of ProHEALTH Care. “Bethany House has done amazing work in providing housing and services for women and children. Through their efforts, these individuals have the support and care they need to lead healthier, happier lives.”

The move is part of ProHEALTH Care’s PHamily Circle, the healthcare organization’s community outreach arm that launched last month at the Women’s Health Expo, which featured workshops, wellness classes and medical screenings.

Women’s health was chosen for this year’s health focus because 2019 is the “Year of the Women.”

As part of the “Year of the Women” campaign, PHamily Circle plans to conduct a series of educational programs and medical screenings, with proceeds going to Bethany House.

In addition to the $1 donation per visit and accepting canned food and toiletries, ProHEALTH is also providing free health care to Bethany House at its Urgent Care centers in June.

“It isn’t enough to focus on patients when they are sick,” Dr. Baker said. “We need to educate our community on prevention and early detection. ProHEALTH Care will continuously offer new programs that address a variety of medical questions and concerns. We want to empower our patients to take control of their health and the health of their families.”

Earlier this year, ProHEALTH Care also introduced parenting workshops and expanded its primary care hours.
