The Port Washington Union Free School District’s Board of Education, district administration, Guggenheim faculty and staff, together with the Guggenheim community recently gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially introduce the newly constructed space at Guggenheim Elementary School.
“The new Guggenheim expansion will be a great asset to our students and staff with state-of-the-art learning tools and flexible-learning spaces,” said Port Washington’s Superintendent of Schools Kathleen Mooney. “On behalf of the BOE, district administration, and the Guggenheim faculty and staff, we would like to thank the community for their support on this project that will provide enhanced efficiency within the building and decrease class sizes to make for a more comfortable learning environment.”
After a bond was approved by the community in 2015, the district began construction for Guggenheim’s new classrooms and facilities in November 2017. The Guggenheim addition was completed within budget and on schedule.
The ribbon cutting officially opened three new classrooms; six small classrooms for special area teachers; an Enrichment, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics (ESTEAM) lab; a multi-purpose room; two offices for storage of musical instruments and two restrooms. Beginning in September 2019, the space will be used to full capacity.
