Levels Thanksgiving Feast at Main

Join Levels for a Thanksgiving Feast on Saturday, Nov. 30 from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. in the Levels Teen Center, Great Neck Library Main Building, 159 Bayview Ave. For teens 7th grade and up.

Every year on the Saturday after the actual Thanksgiving, the Levels “family” has a Thanksgiving meal together — it doesn’t matter if it’s your first time in the room, all teens are welcome at the Levels table. Levels brings the Turkey; you bring the sides and desserts. Give thanks with Levels. Free of charge.

Behind the Camera: The Art of Great Filmmaking presented by Richard Knox at Main

Join Richard Knox when he demonstrates through video clips from a variety of classic movies, just how essential good direction is to the overall film experience on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the Main Library’s Community Room, 159 Bayview Ave.
Richard Knox is a lifelong arts enthusiast. A retired math teacher, he lectures regularly about the nuances of film and other forms of entertainment.

The next Wednesday Matinee, about the battle of the sexes as Petruchio attempts to tame his fiery wife, will be shown on Dec. 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Ave.

Free Blood Pressure Screenings at Station

Have your blood pressure checked by a clinical nurse from St. Francis Hospital, free of charge on Thursday, Dec. 5 between the hours of 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. at the Station Branch, 26 Great Neck Road (2nd level), Gardens at Great Neck Plaza, above Best Market.
Hypertension affects an astounding one in four adult Americans. Also known as high blood pressure, this condition usually has no symptoms, which is why it is often called the “silent killer.” No registration required.

Veterans Donation Drive at Main Library and Parkville Branch

Donations for the Veterans Donation Drive to benefit the Northport VA Medical Center will be accepted through Dec. 6 at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue, and Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell St. (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park.

The Drive is presented by the Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, the Town Board, and the Town’s Veterans Advisory Committee.

New items only. Items needed are: Trial size toiletries including toothbrushes, toothpaste, quad track razors, shaving cream, unscented body lotion, brushes and combs, deodorant, nail clippers and shampoo; New (or gently used) luggage with wheels; Crocheted blankets (approx. 48” X 60” or larger); Clothing of all types (sizes large and up) are also welcome donations.

Great Neck Library Closing/Cancellation Information Online

Library patrons connected to the Internet are asked to check the website: www.cancellations.com for Library weather-related closings/program cancellations.
In order to access this service, Library District residents can log on to cancellations.com, type in their zip code or Great Neck Library and obtain information on program cancellations or Library closings.

In addition, at no charge, residents can request automatic e-mails from cancellations.com when the Library has posted any information. This is a great way for Library District residents who are connected online to be advised of weather-related changes in Library hours or programs.
