The Herricks Public Schools Board of Education recognized Herricks High School senior Jacqueline Lewittes for her artistic creativity of the 2017-2018 district calendar cover during the Sept. 14 meeting.

Established two years ago, Superintendent of Schools Fino Celano and Herricks High School art teacher Richard Ganes examined past years calendar covers and thought it would be exciting to have a student create the cover.

Since its inception, Ganes nominates a student each year to design the cover that creatively describes their experience in the district. As tradition, a permanent collection of each student’s cover design will be on display in the superintendent’s office.

“Thank you for the honor of selecting a student each year and congratulations Jacqueline on your fantastic work,” Ganes said.

During the meeting Jacqueline described her inspiration for her work reflecting on her school experience incorporating the arts, music, sports and academics.

Celano commended Jacqueline on the vision of her design and her talents as an artist.

“I have received numerous compliments from faculty and members of the community on the great art work Jacqueline did on the front cover of the calendar,” said Celano. “You’re an amazing artist and we cannot thank you enough for how you contributed to the whole district through your artwork.”
