Herricks’ Chan recipient of artist award

Herricks High School senior Mikayla Chan has been named one of the 20 recipients of the Long Island Scholar Artist Award of Merit distinction, presented by the Long Island Arts Alliance.

She was selected in the music category, based on an application that reflected her exemplary demonstration of hard work, excellent scholarship and accomplishments.

A talented musician with many achievements to her name, Mikayla has twice performed in the Music for All National Festival’s Honor Orchestra of America; once as a violinist and the following year as a clarinetist.

She has also performed in the Long Island String Festival Association’s Nassau Chamber Music Festival

Mikayla was formally recognized during a celebration held on Sept. 14 at Half Hollow Hills High School East. At the end of the school year, she will be commended during a reception at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on the Campus of LIU-Post.
