Herricks High School senior Eish Maheshwari has been recognized as a Regeneron Science Talent Search Scholar, as announced on Jan. 9 by the Society for Science and the Public.
He was selected from a pool of 1,964 applications, which were received from 601 high schools in 48 states, two U.S. territories and eligible students living in seven other countries.
This year, research projects cover topics from bioengineering to environmental science to physics. Eish conducted his Translational Medicine research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He spent two summers studying the properties of curcumin-loaded nanoparticles. His senior research is titled “Design of a Red Blood Cell- Based Drug-Delivery Platform for Improving Curcumin Pharmacokinetics and Bioavailability via Reengineered Silica Nanoparticles.”
The 300 scholars were selected based on their exceptional research skills, commitment to academics, innovative thinking and promise as scientists. This year, research projects cover topics from bioengineering to environmental science to physics. Later this month, 40 scholars will be named Regeneron Science Talent Search finalists.
Eish is the valedictorian of the Class of 2019 and has numerous science research awards and other distinctions to his name. He was a Grand Prize winner at last year’s Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, also known as World Intel, and is a four-year participant in the Herricks High School Science Research Program, under the mentorship of Mrs. Renée Barcia.
