The Herricks High School Chamber Orchestra, directed by teacher Catherine Fish, has won incredible national recognition. The ensemble has earned awards in two categories of the American Prize competition.
The Chamber Orchestra placed third in the American Prize in Orchestral Performance, for which it submitted recordings of works by Bartok, Gould, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Diamond, and Daugherty. Herricks High School’s group is next in line to the much larger first and second-place winning programs, both of which are based in Texas.
The Chamber Orchestra also won a third-place Ernst Bacon Memorial Award for the Performance of American Music. According to the American Prize, this award recognizes and rewards the best performances of American music by ensembles and individual artists worldwide, based on submitted recordings. The Herricks musicians submitted recordings of works by David Diamond, Morton Gould, and Michael Daugherty to earn this recognition, and represent the only public school winner in this category.
