Herricks High School has announced that seniors Kyle Pinzon and Rhea Rasquinha have been selected as winners of the National Merit $2,500 Scholarship, underwritten by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

They each earned eligibility after being named National Merit Finalists this winter and were selected based on their academic records, essays, PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index scores, school curriculum, written recommendations, activities, leadership involvement and other factors determined by the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Rhea and Kyle are Class of 2021 valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, and both are award-winning Science Research students, AP Scholars with Distinction, National Honor Society members and leaders in their school.

Kyle serves as school executive president, Community Club vice president and a varsity member of Herricks Quiz Bowl, and has also contributed to the Freshmen Focus and Yearbook organizations as co-president alongside Rhea.

Additionally, he is a varsity swim and badminton athlete and talented musician with many achievements to his name.

Rhea is Student Government Executive Board Vice President and has held Co-President roles with the STEM Club, Tri-M Music Honor Society and Euro/Fed Challenge. She is public relations/podcast editor of the Herricks Explore, Create, Share group and helped organize the Herricks Strong community assistance initiative. She is also an accomplished cross country and track athlete as well as a musician.
