Herricks High School sophomores Carolyn Lau and Kriya Patel placed first and second, respectively, in the grade 10 category of the Long Island Language Arts Council’s 2021 Kenneth Gambone Writing Contest. They will be honored at an upcoming virtual luncheon.

Students were asked to submit writing of their choice along with an on-demand creative response to the Fredrick Douglass quote, “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” Carolyn’s on-demand entry is titled “Finding Our Way Through Wonderland” and Kriya’s self-selected entry is named “Closing my eyes…” As a first-place winner, Carolyn will have her work published in the luncheon program.
