On Saturday, March 30, Herricks Vocal Jazz participated in Jazz Day at LIU Post. The day included a vocal jazz workshop with Dr. Jen Miceli and masterclass with singers from the Swingles, the internationally renowned a cappella ensemble based in London.

The Swingles were founded by Ward Swingle in 1968 and came to fame through their jazz interpretations of the music of J.S. Bach. The current members, based in London, are known internationally for their virtuosic a cappella arrangements of myriad styles from contemporary pop to modern jazz.

Herricks Vocal Jazz, and their director James Ludwig, worked with the Swingles on microphone technique and non-verbal communication within an ensemble. Swingles member Jon Smith said the group had a, “lovely sound and a really nice blend.”

The day ended with a performance by the Swingles in Krasnoff Theater at Tilles Center.
