Herricks High School students Amisha Brahmbhatt, Genesis Kang, Prableen Kaur, Roshni Patel and Sarah Ninan were awarded fourth place in the entire country in the virtual National History Day competition.
They were recognized for their senior group exhibit, titled “From Outrage to Amity: The 1964 Panamanian Riots.”
The group prepared their project under the guidance of advisers Melissa Jacobs and Samantha Gerantabee, and advanced to the national level after placing within the top three in the state contest. Congratulations to the students on this prominent distinction!
National History Day is a yearlong educational program sponsored in New York State by the New York State Historical Association that encourages students in grades 6-12 to explore local, state, national and world history.
Herricks participants spend countless hours working on their research, for which they access major databases in the libraries, analyze their findings and develop meaningful and comprehensive projects.
