Jackson Ave third graders visit the Mineola Fire Department for Fire Prevention Week

Third Graders from Jackson Ave School visited the Mineola Fire Department Headquarters for a fire prevention presentation during fire prevention week. The students were treated to a lecture on prevention. A movie was shown that covered all the resources fire departments use to help increase awareness about home fires and learn about fire protection technology. and injuries caused by residential fires have declined over the past several decades. The students tried on the firefighters gear and got to sit in the passenger cabs where the firemen sit going to an alarm. After the presentation all the of them got a plastic fire helmet and a McDonald’s fire prevention form, which after they filled out and their teacher signed they could get free food items on their next trip to the Mc Donald’s. It was an enjoyable time for these third graders as they took in all of the firefighter’s advice.
