Juneteenth (June 19) is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. This presentation will focus on the history and significance of Juneteenth and the various ways in which it is celebrated throughout the country.

Martin H. Levinson has written and lectured extensively on topics of historical interest. He holds a PhD from NYU.
