It’s almost time for Great Neck Plaza Idol.
The Village of Great Neck Plaza, along with its business improvement district, will be hosting a karaoke competition promenade night on Aug. 8, in hopes of showcasing local talent and the restaurants the village has to offer.
It will take on Bond Street starting at 7 p.m. and joined by café style dining offered by Elaine’s Asian Bistro, La Rotonda, Ippon Asian Cuisine, Bee Organic, and Great Neck Diner. Sal Vivo, meanwhile, will return as the event’s DJ and MC.
“This competition always brings out some wonderful local talent,” Great Neck Plaza Mayor Jean Celender said. “In the past we have had amazing singers perform music from jazz to rap to pop to show tunes. We are very excited to see how the competition will play out this year.”
The first place winner will get $300 in gift certificates for a Great Neck Plaza business of their choice. Second place will get $150 and third place will get $75. Up to 20 people, 16 years or older, may participate.

The week after, on Aug. 15, the village will host its re-scheduled Ballroom Dancing Promenade, featuring award-winning sibling ballroom dance duo Artur and Alina Shvetsova.
That event, cancelled due to inclement weather, will remain on Middle Neck Road between Grace Avenue and Maple Drive. Café style dining will begin at 6:30 p.m. and dance instruction starts at 7:00 p.m.
“After last year’s incredible reaction from the Great Neck community to our ballroom dancing promenade night, we had to bring this fun-filled night of dancing back to the community,” Ron Edelson, director of the Business Improvement District, previously said.
