Garden City Park School kindergartners in Kristen Guarasci’s class enjoyed a virtual visit from New Hyde Park-Garden City Park District Literacy Coach Vivian Sirakis on Jan. 6.

Sirakis read “Ralph Tells a Story” by Abby Hanlon, a children’s book about the struggles of figuring out what to write about. Following the reading, the class discussed how growing writers can think about their experiences and things that they know and care about to generate ideas for their writing. Students then used these new strategies to draw and write from personal experience.

Guarasci and Sirakis have been coteaching writers’ workshops to the class this school year.
