Sewanhaka High School students were encouraged to perform various acts of kindness as part of a month-long Kindness Challenge, held throughout April.

The activities included creating a poster with a quote, message or poem about kindness; creating a social media post about kindness; writing a short story about someone who is kind; handing out kindness cards; completing a kindness journal; creating sidewalk art using chalk with messages of kindness and positive drawings; and more.

To conclude the challenge, the Virtual Enterprises class organized a parade in conjunction with the Stewart Manor Fire Department on April 28. VE student Dillan Powell reached out to Principal Nichole Allen, Fire Chief Michael Powell and Mayor Michael Onorato to coordinate the event. With the support of the school and local community, VE’s Bag-O-Matic company created banners and posters to hang from Ladder Truck 191. During the parade, students drove behind the fire truck.

Residents of Stewart Manor came out of their homes to witness the car parade, which supported spreading acts of kindness and positivity in the community.
