Kings Point Trustee Ron Horowitz has resigned from the Board of Trustees and Architectural Review Board, Mayor Michael Kalnick said at a board meeting on Thursday night, leading to the appointment of his replacements.
Horowitz, a lawyer and real estate developer, was first appointed in March 2011 to finish the term vacated by former trustee Richard Sokolov and had served on the Architectural Review Board since 2008.
Kalnick said that after residing in the village for over 25 years, Horowitz moved away, resulting in his resignation.
“[The Board of Trustees] want to thank [Ron Horowitz] for all his years of service and dedication,” Kalnick said.
Tedi Kashi will take his place on the Architectural Review Board, while Great Neck-based developer Kris Torkan, the president of Syndicated Ventures and Villadom Corp., will take Horowitz’s place on the Board of Trustees.
“We believe [Kris Torkan] will be a great asset to the Board of Trustees,” Kalnick said.
Among the resolutions reached during Thursday’s board meeting was the consideration of introducing a bill related to zoning for small wireless facilities.
This relates to a proposal from January 2018 by ExteNet, a company that creates and manages distributed networks for cell phone companies, to install 31 small cell nodes across Kings Point with the purpose of improving coverage and data capacity for cell phones.
While representatives from ExteNet said in their updated proposal last month that most of the nodes would be installed into existing telephone poles, they also called for the construction of four more poles, as well as a fifth ornamental pole.
ExteNet’s proposal will be discussed further during the Board of Trustees’ next scheduled public hearing on March 7.
In other village business, trustees approved payment of $320,025.69 in audited claims.
Trustees also plan to take up the renewal of the Crime Insurance Policy and General Liability Policy to March 1, 2020, a bill related to zoning in the village with regards to solar panel systems, and legislation that would allow the village to pierce the state property tax cap at their March 7 meeting.
