The opening monologue of the ever-popular “Saturday Night Live” took a turn for the worse when Larry David discussed pick-up lines from Holocaust-era concentration camps.
David, creator of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” hosted Saturday Night Live for the second time on Saturday and delivered a monologue that has enraged Jews across the country.
“I don’t like it when Jews are in the headlines for notorious reasons,” David said. “I want, ‘Einstein Discovers the Theory of Relativity.’ ‘Salk Cures Polio.’ What I don’t want? ‘Weinstein Took It Out.'”
David talked about his own self-described obsession with women and how different his dating life would have been if he grew up in Poland when Adolf Hitler came to power.
David said, however, there are no “good pick-up lines in concentration camps.”
“How’s it going? They treating you OK?” David continued in the monologue. “You know, if we ever get out of here, I’d love to take you out for some latkes. You like latkes? What, what’d I say? Is it me or is it the whole thing? It’s ’cause I’m bald, isn’t it?”
The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County released a statement Monday morning in response to David’s remarks.
“Memorializing the millions of victims of the Holocaust and cherishing the remaining survivors of this most terrible period in human history are sacred responsibilities,” the center said. “Sadly, there are those who would make light of what these men, women and 1.5 million children went through and we condemn the offensive so-called ‘jokes’ about the Holocaust that actor and comedian Larry David delivered on a recent ‘Saturday Night Live’ broadcast. Words cannot convey how insensitive and hurtful his comments were and we invite Mr. David to visit our Center to re-educate himself and to meet with survivors of the Holocaust to help him understand the anguish he has caused.”
Viewers took to Twitter Saturday night to express their distaste for the monologue.
Larry David is a vermin. For a Jew to mock the Holocaust is beyond sick. SNL is unwatchable!

Some defended David’s jokes and his right to dabble in uncomfortable material as a Jewish man, including conservative political commentator Ann Coulter.
