NOTICE OF ANNUAL ELECTION AND BUDGET VOTE
MINEOLA UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Mineola Union Free School District, Town of North Hempstead, Nassau County, New York for the school year 2021-2022, will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 ñ at 7:00 p.m., at the Willis Avenue School, located at 121 Jackson Avenue, Mineola, NY, for the presentation of the budget document.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that that said vote and election will be held on, May 18, 2021 between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. prevailing time, at the following locations:
Election District #1
Polling Place: Jackson Avenue Elementary School
All those portions of the School District which are located within the US Postal Service
Zip Codes 11501 and 11040.
Election District #2
Polling Place: Meadow Drive Elementary School
All those portions of the School District which are located within the US Postal Service
Zip Codes 11507, 11577 and 11596.
If there are any questions concerning the election districts, a listing, by US Postal Service Zip Code, of streets, all or portions of which are located within the school district, is available in the Office of the District Clerk located at 121 Jackson Ave., Mineola, NY. Each voter must vote in his/her assigned election district.
The polls will be opened to vote by optical scanning voting machine upon the following items:
To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the 2021-2022 school year and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District.

To elect two (2) members of the Board of Education as follows:

Two (2) three (3) year terms commencing July 1, 2021 and expiring on June 30, 2024, to succeed Christine Napolitano and Brian Widman, whose terms expire June 30, 2021.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the election and budget vote shall be by machine or absentee ballot. The hours during which the polls shall be kept open shall be from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. prevailing time or for as long thereafter as necessary to enable qualified voters who are in the polling place at 9:00 p.m. to cast their ballots.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required to fund the Districtís budget for the school year 2021-22, exclusive of public monies, to be voted on at the Annual District Public Election and Vote to be held on May 18, 2021, will be available at the said Annual Election and, upon request, may be obtained by any resident of the District at each school house in the district in which school is maintained, during the hours of from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on each day other than a Saturday, Sunday or holiday during the fourteen (14) days immediately preceding the election.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that pursuant to Section 495 of the Real Property Tax Law, the District is required to attach to its proposed budget an exemption report. Said exemption report, which will also become part of the final budget, will show how much of the total assessed value on the final assessment roll used in the budgetary process is exempt from taxation, list every type of exemption granted by statutory authority, and show the cumulative impact of each type of exemption, the cumulative amount expected to be received as payments in lieu of taxes and the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted. The budget and report will also be posted on the school districtís website ñ www.mineola.k12.ny.us
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be nominated by petition directed to the District Clerk. Each such petition shall be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the district, shall state the name and residence of the candidate and the name and residence of each signer, and must be filed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the Office of the District Clerk, 121 Jackson Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501, not later than the thirtieth day preceding the election at which the candidates so nominated are to be elected (April 19, 2021). Vacancies on the Board of Education are not considered separate, specific offices; candidates run at large. Nominating petitions shall not describe any specific vacancy upon the Board for which the candidate is nominated. Nominating petitions may be obtained in the Office of the District Clerk. The candidate(s) receiving the greatest number of votes shall be considered elected to office. Where terms are of different length, the candidate receiving the highest number of votes shall be appointed to the longest term of office. However, a nomination may be rejected by the Board of Education if the candidate is ineligible for the office or declares his unwillingness to serve.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that applications for absentee ballots may be obtained during school business hours from the District Clerk beginning March 15, 2021 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election, if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or by the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. To be canvassed, absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, on May 18, 2021. A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District in the Office of the District Clerk during regular business hours until the day of the election. Any qualified voter present in the polling place may object to the voting of the ballot upon appropriate grounds for making his/her challenge and the reasons therefor known to the Inspector of Election before the close of the polls.
REGISTRATION
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the Board of Registration of said school district will meet at the Willis Avenue School, located at 121 Jackson Avenue, Mineola, NY 11501, on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., for the purpose of preparing a register of the qualified voters, at which time any person shall be entitled to have his/her name placed upon such register, providing that at such meeting of the Board of Registration he/she is known or proven to the satisfaction of the Board of Registration, to be then or thereafter entitled to vote. Registration is also permitted daily up to and including Thursday, May 13, 2021 in the Office of District Clerk during the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The Board of Registration shall also meet at the respective polling places on the date and during the hours of the aforesaid election for the purpose of preparing a register for meetings and elections held subsequent thereto.
The Register of the qualified voters will be filed in the Office of the District Clerk, where it shall be open for inspection by any qualified voter between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on each of the five days prior to the day of the election, except Sunday, except the hours shall be between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon on Saturday; and also at each polling place during the hours of said election. Any person who shall have previously registered for any school district meeting or election and who shall have voted at any school meeting or election at any time within the four calendar years (2017-2020) prior to the preparation of the register, and any person currently registered for general elections under the provisions of Article 5 of the Election Law shall be entitled to vote at said election without further registration.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that Military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as a qualified voter of the school district. Military voters may apply to register to vote with the District Clerk in person at the Willis Avenue School, located at 121 Jackson Avenue, Mineola, NY 11501 or by calling that office at 516-237-2032. Upon such request for a military voter application, such military voter may indicate his/her preference for receiving the application for registration by mail, facsimile or electronic mail. Such registration application must be received in the office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2021. Any military voter shall be entitled to have his/her name placed upon such register, provided, that he/she is known or proven to be to the satisfaction of the District Clerk, to be then or thereafter entitled to military voter status at the annual meeting and election for which such register is prepared.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that in accordance with Part 122 of the Rules and Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, military voters who are qualified voters of the school district may apply for a military ballot. Applications for military ballots for the election of two members of the Board of Education and for voting on the annual school district budget may be requested from the District Clerk or by calling that office at 516-237-2032. Upon such request for a military voter ballot application, such military voter may indicate his/her preference for receiving the application by mail, facsimile or electronic mail. Completed military ballot applications must be received by the Clerk of the District no later than 5:00 pm on April 22, 2021. A list of all persons to whom military ballots shall have been issued will be available in the Office of the District Clerk during regular business hours until the day of the election and at the polling places on the day of the vote.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the Board of Education shall convene a special meeting following the closing of the polls and after the filing with the District Clerk of written reports of the results of the election, for the purpose of examining and tabulating said reports and declaring the results of the election; and that the Board hereby designates the Superintendent and District Clerk to be a set of poll clerks to cast and canvass ballots pursuant to Education Law Section 2019-a, at 3:00 p.m. on May 19, 2021 in the Superintendentís office.
