Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D – Great Neck) recently heralded the arrival of the Great Neck Buzz shuttle-share service – an innovative fusion of mass transit and ridesharing that aims to address the downtown parking crunch for Manhattan-bound commuters at the Great Neck LIRR station.

The Great Neck Buzz, a low-cost, subscription-based service launched by the Great Neck Park District in partnership with Nassau County and Transdev through the NICE Bus system, allows riders to purchase a pass and be assigned a pickup point within walking distance of their home. The shuttle-share holds 14 passengers and has accessibility for mobility devices.

“The Great Neck Buzz stands to provide Great Neck residents a low-cost and flexible option for accessing mass transit in their community,” Birnbaum said. “I applaud everyone involved in this endeavor for their willingness to think outside the box in search of solutions that will benefit commuters and reduce our reliance on automobiles.”
