A Glen Cove woman was killed Wednesday evening after a Long Island Rail Road train struck her near Plandome Station in Manhasset, a railroad spokesman said.

A westbound train coming from Port Washington hit the woman, 56, at 5:12 p.m., the spokesman, Aaron Donovan, said.

Police are investigating the woman’s death as a suicide, Donovan said. The LIRR is withholding the woman’s name until her family is notified.

“The investigation is obviously in its early stages and we don’t have much more than that,” Donovan said in an interview.

The incident put a logjam in North Shore commutes for about two hours.

The LIRR suspended service east of Great Neck Station on the Port Washington Branch at 5:18 p.m., according to an email alert from the railroad. Service was partially restored at 6:59 p.m. and fully restored at 7:16 p.m, other alerts said.

Six trains were canceled and several others were delayed because of the incident, according to LIRR alerts. Westbound trains to Penn Station in Manhattan started in Great Neck while buses shuttled passengers to the Manhasset, Plandome and Port Washington stations, Donovan said.
