When Lisa Sicurelli’s children entered preschool, she said she wanted to get to know her new home better.

A native of Brooklyn, Sicurelli moved to Long Island to start a family and soon became enthralled with the Long Island real estate market, becoming a licensed salesperson at Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty in 1994.

“At first I thought it would be a simple part-time job showing a few houses here and there, but little did I know that real estate would soon become my passion, to help people buy and sell their homes,” Sicurelli said. “I loved what I did every single day.”

Recently, Sicurelli was named to Long Island Business News’ Top 50 Women in Business Hall of Fame. Since it launched in 2000, the Top 50 Women in Business program has recognized the island’s top women professionals for business acumen, mentoring and community involvement. Selected by a committee of journalists and business leaders, the honorees are representative of the most influential women in business, government and the not-for-profit fields.

In 2005, Sicurelli co-founded Ambassador Abstract LLC, a title abstract company for residential and commercial real estate, and two months ago, she moved into an office in Roslyn, citing the “beautiful historic village full of restored homes and a wonderful harbor” for the relocation.

Sicurelli said no matter the job, her passion has always driven her to excel, refusing to take no for an answer and self-motivating through the struggles.

“I believe wholeheartedly where there is a will, there certainly is a way,” Sicurelli said.

According to the Multiple Listing Service of Long Island, the real estate market in October showed a 6.02 percent increase in median home prices over the same period last year, and Sicurelli said there has never been a better time to buy or sell a home on Long Island.

“Long Island offers many resources to many different people of all different backgrounds, and it is so welcoming to children and everyone,” Sicurelli said. “It’s a fabulous place to live with beautiful beaches, and it’s so clean. I feel that people are realizing that more and more, and they are coming in from the five boroughs and taking up a new lifestyle here.”

As an honored woman in the Long Island business world, Sicurelli said women need to focus on their abilities and skills and ignore the negative pressures to succeed.

“I have always believed in myself,” Sicurelli said. “I’ve always had confidence in myself to succeed. If I had to pass any advice on to women looking to succeed in business, it would be just that — to believe in yourself, to have confidence in yourself as a woman, and this is key, listen to your intuition. It’s always right.”
