It was Senior Day for the LIU Post men’s lacrosse team on Saturday, April 28.

The team celebrated with an 11-5 victory against East Coast Conference rival Mercy College at Bethpage Credit Union Stadium on the LIU Post campus in Brookville.

The first quarter was a dynamic back and forth between the two teams, with neither scoring until 3:58 left, Mercy’s junior midfielder, Erik Badger, pegged the first goal onto the scoreboard and was shortly answered by Post’s sophomore attacker, Nick Grassa, to even the score.

The first quarter ended in a 2-2 tie.

Post dominated the second quarter, with William Snelders, freshman attacker, Ryan Blume, freshman defender, and Dylan Harned, senior midfielder, scoring two, one and one respectively. Post led Mercy by three points to end the first half at 6-3.

Mercy was unable to get a single shot in throughout the third quarter, with Post taking possession for a majority of the quarter. Post racked in the points, ending the third at 10-3. Mercy was able to score twice in the fourth quarter, but Post kept a six point lead to the end, winning the game at 11-5.

This win places Post at 9-4 for the regular season and 5-1 for the ECC. Mercy is now 10-4 for the season and 4-2 for the ECC.

Next week, the Post men’s lacrosse team will be heading into playoffs.

“We’ll do the same thing we always do, trying to improve, trying to be better,” LIU Post men’s lacrosse head coach, Eric Wolf, said.

Wolf is coming to the end of his first season as the head coach of the men’s lacrosse team. Wolf is excited to head to the playoffs with his team.

“Bottom line, it will be a little bit more crazy; it is the playoffs, you just [have to] be able to execute,” Wolf said.

Tom Liantonio, junior attacker for Post, agreed with Wolf. “It’s just lacrosse; you’ve been playing all your life, just [have to] keep going, fit the game plan, and execute as much as possible.”

The team will host the ECC semifinals on Wednesday, May 2 at home. ECC finals will be on Saturday, May 5 at NYIT’s President’s Stadium in Old Westbury.
