Alvernia University

Lindsay Eckhoff of Williston Park was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must carry a semester GPA of 3.5 or better.

Anjelica Riccobono of New Hyde Park earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing with a minor in biology.

Bucknell University

The following students were named to the dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement during the spring 2019 semester: Emma Cisneros, Lexi Katz and Derek Knight from Port Washington; Kenneth Wu from Great Neck; JJ Alicea from New Hyde Park; Michael Murphy from Williston Park; and Lucas Alcaraz, Robert De Castro, Andrew Gray, Irene Karantzios, Kate Petras and Kiara Romotzki from Manhasset. A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean’s list recognition.

Clemson University

Shannon Andrea Rybecky of Port Washington and Emma Rose Aquino of Roslyn were named to the president’s list for the spring 2019 semester. To be named to the president’s list, a student must achieve a 4.0 (all As) grade-point average.

Eric Joseph Schissel of Port Washington and Nicole Karanicolas of Albertson were named to the dean’s list. To be named to the dean’s list, a student achieved a grade-point average between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.

Colby College

Taro Katayama of Port Washington and Jacqueline Albanese of Manhasset were two of 462 seniors who graduated from Colby College on May 26, receiving bachelor of arts degrees.

Colgate University

Members of the graduating class of 2019 included Samuel Timothy of Port Washington and Chelsea Taylor and Madeline Barcia of Manhasset. Timothy, a graduate of Paul D. Schreiber High School, majored in geology. Taylor and Barcia, graduates of Manhasset High School, both majored in political science.

Elizabethtown College

Katherine Morse of Manhasset, an early childhood education major, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester. Students on the dean’s list are full-time undergraduate students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.60 or better.

Georgia Institute of Technology

Jack Weinkselbaum of Port Washington earned a bachelor of science in computer science and Scott Pergament of Old Westbury earned a bachelor of science in industrial engineering at Georgia Tech’s commencement ceremony on May 3-4. 

Hamilton College

Madeline Justiniano of New Hyde Park has been named to the dean’s list for the 2019 spring semester. To be named to the dean’s list, a student must have carried throughout the semester a course load of four or more graded credits with an average of 3.5 or above.

Lehigh University

Max Mastbaum of Manhasset graduated with a master of engineering degree with a major in technical entrepreneurship in spring 2019.

The following local students received bachelor’s degrees during the commencement ceremonies on May 20: James Papadopoulos, Bryant Born and Kendall Glynn of Manhasset; Molly Hwang of Great Neck; Austin Katz of Albertson; and Eric Sherman of Roslyn.

New York Institute of Technology

Eamonn Lennon, a communication arts major from New Hyde Park, and Jose Melgar, a digital art major from Port Washington, were among NYIT students who presented their work for an annual film and animation festival hosted by the institution’s Communication Arts and Digital Art and Design departments.

The showcase took place at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway and included a diverse mix of student artwork ranging from short films, 2D animation, 3D animation, motion graphics, commercials, and more.

NYIT’s student orientation leaders are gearing up to welcome new students ahead of the fall semester. Orientation leaders serve as the main point of contact for new students and their families during New Student Orientation. Local orientation leaders include: Ajay Benjamin, Asiya Hassan and Daniel Matthew of New Hyde Park.

Quinnipiac University

The following students were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester: Jessica Tsinberg of Great Neck; Suzanne Gil and Marissa Motti of Manhasset; Christen Anastas, Louis Basileo, Christin Candela, Jillian Palma and Jessica Patterson of Mineola.

Stonehill College

Danielle Villano of Port Washington was named to the spring 2019 dean’s list. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must have a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better.

SUNY Geneseo

Maria Canellos of New Hyde Park was named to the president’s list for the spring 2019 semester. To be on the list, a student must have achieved a 4.0-grade point average while taking at least 12 credit hours.

The following students were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester: Catherine Cunningham of Mineola; Marguerite Bosco, Jonathan Chao and Caroline Crimmins of Albertson; Hannah Kearney of Carle Place; Bridget Rynne and Allison Yarri of Williston Park; Jade Chang, Stephanie Lee and Una Stopford of Port Washington; Leah Fried, Rachel Butchen, Rebecca Hirschhorn and Leila Sassouni of Great Neck; and Alexa Blandeburgo, Carol Chang, Mackenzie Griffin and Mythili Hareendran of New Hyde Park. To be on the list, a student must have achieved at least a 3.5-grade point average.

SUNY Oneonta

Casey Hayes of New Hyde Park, Julia Langro and Karlo Vlahek of Port Washington and Isabel Amir of Great Neck, were among 196 students who earned provost list honors for the spring 2019 semester. To qualify for the provost’s list, a student must earn a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while carrying a course load of 12 hours or more.

The following students earned dean’s list honors for the spring 2019 semester: Diane Carvalho, Emily Lutz and Dana Lewis of Carle Place; Katherine Dorman and Christalla Elias of Albertson; Margaret Giacinto, Christen Patalano and Christopher Lockwood of Mineola; Michal Golos and Stephany Reyes of Roslyn; Siria Castillo, Clare Jay, Scott McCann and Alissa Salerno of Port Washington; Benjamin Rosenstein of Great Neck; and Nina Arlotta, Benjamin Cradin, Sara Manners, Caitlyn Pereira, Erin Rivera and Jalissa Sanchez of New Hyde Park.

Zachary Boehm of Port Washington spent two weeks in Guatemala learning about the country’s water resource problems and environmental issues, spending time with local residents, and working toward solutions.

The annual field course, called Water and Environment of Guatemala, brought 20 students to Guatemala for two weeks, where they took water samples and analyzed water quality data from Lake Atitlan and the surrounding drainage basin. Boehm is majoring in environmental sustainability.

Eighteen students spent a little over two weeks, from May 13 to May 26, completing service projects and working with impoverished youth and families in Quito and Mindo, Ecuador as part of an upper-division human development and family studies course. The following local students went on the trip: Madison Weiss of Albertson, KellieMarie Cassidy of Mineola and Siria Castillo of Port Washington.

Oneonta Red Dragon Sports

Peter McCormack of Mineola, competed on the 2019 SUNY Oneonta men’s lacrosse team during the recently completed spring season. The Red Dragons finished with an overall record of 5-9 this spring while completing a 2-4 season record in the SUNYAC. McCormack played and started in all 16 games this season. He scored six goals, added seve assists, collected 25 ground balls and caused five turnovers.

The following local area athletes competed on the 2019 SUNY Oneonta women’s lacrosse team this past spring: Lauren Bascelli of Williston Park, Christen Patalano of Mineola and Lily Avazis of Port Washington.

SUNY Potsdam

Lauren Behan of Mineola, whose major is music education, was named to the president’s list for the spring 2019 semester. To achieve the honor of being on the president’s list, a student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Sarahi Interiano of Port Washington, whose major is Spanish, was among 316 students named to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester. To achieve the honor of being on the dean’s list, a student must have a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.49 in the given semester.

Tufts University

The following students were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester: Andrew Alstodt, Emilia Charno, Mark Gonzalez, Sarah Gottesman, Cory Gottfried, Matthew Kam and Alexander Zsikla of Port Washington; Craig Cagner, Erica Levy and Robin Park of Great Neck; Julian Balkcom, Sonam Delhiwala and Ismenia Ginebra of New Hyde Park; Ilana Gitlin, Anisha Jain, Brooke Juhel and Andrew Schloss of Roslyn; and Anthony Benja-Athon, John Cyprus, Kevin Gleason, Kenar Haratunian, Alex Maleno, Elliot Pavlovich, Adam Pidedjian and Nadia Sbuttoni of Manhasset. Dean’s list honors at Tufts University require a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.

The following undergraduate students were awarded degrees in disciplines ranging from the sciences and engineering to the humanities and fine arts during Tufts University’s annual commencement: Harry Paul, Madeline Katz and Conor Jenkinson of Port Washington; Stephanie Gottlieb of Great Neck; and Anthony Benja-Athon of Manhasset.

Union College

Marc Perlman, of Roslyn, was named to the Union College chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Perlman is a member of the class of 2019. Election is based on scholarship and character, with particular attention given to intellectual maturity and breadth. Union’s Phi Beta Kappa chapter, Alpha of New York, was established in 1817 and is the fifth oldest in the country. 

Graduates from the class of 2019 included: Christopher Bendix and Timothy Curtis of Port Washington; Sarah Kaplan and Benjamin Lee of Great Neck; Sarah Gottlieb and Marc Perlman of Roslyn; and Sophia Langner of Manhasset.

University of Mississippi

Mallory Jayne Mayfield, of Williston Park, graduated with a master of accountancy at the university’s recent commencement ceremony.

University of Rhode Island

The following students were named to the spring 2019 dean’s list: Carolyn Bollerman of Port Washington; Hazel Acosta and Anthony Bartolotta of New Hyde Park; Michela Franz and Haley Perlow of Mineola; John Keyes of Albertson; and Nora Moran of Williston Park.

University of San Diego

Maksym Cohen of Albertson graduated on May 26, earning a bachelor’s degree in international relations and environmental & ocean science.

University of the Sciences

The following graduates were part of the university’s commencement celebration on May 22: Rikita Doshi of New Hyde Park, who graduated with a bachelor of science degree in biology, and Marilyn Abraham and Riya Varma of New Hyde Park, who graduated with doctor of pharmacy degrees.

Wilkes University

Sarah Weynand of Albertson was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester. To be named to the dean’s list, students must obtain a minimum 3.5 grade-point average.

Williams College

Erin Madison Cohn of Roslyn received a B.A. in biology at the college’s commencement ceremony on June 2.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute

Port Washington resident Matthew Nicholson and Manhasset resident Elizabeth Jones received bachelor’s degrees at 151st WPI commencement.
