Assumption College

Haley Bellomo, of Port Washington, is one of 10 students spending the fall semester abroad at Assumption College’s Rome Campus, where the city and country of Italy become a living classroom.

McDaniel College

Freshman Kiera Ackerina of Carle Place was awarded the $100K Educator’s Legacy Scholarship.

Children with a parent or guardian who has at least four years of current and consecutive full time employment at a K-12 school or community college can apply for this guaranteed scholarship to attend McDaniel College. Any service qualifies, such as teachers, administrators, counselors, nurses or support staff, etc.

New York Institute of Technology

NYIT graduate student Joseph Sassoon of Great Neck was among the students causing a flutter of activity at NYIT’s Harry J. Schure Hall this past summer.

Sassoon, who is studying bioengineering at NYIT’s College of Engineering and Computing Sciences, collaborated with students from Paris’ CESI Graduate School of Engineering, at the Integrated Medical Systems Lab (IMS Lab) at NYIT under the supervision of Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Aydin Farajidavar, Ph.D.

Colby College

Matthew Gawley has enrolled at the Waterville, Maine school this fall. 

A graduate of Paul D Schreiber Senior High, he is the son of Steven and Pamela Gawley of Port Washington.

New York National Guard

The following members of the New York Army National Guard received promotions in recognition of their capabilities for additional responsibility and leadership.

Liliam Sotomayormora from Mineola and assigned to the Company H (Forward Support Company Infantry), 427th Brigade Support Battalion received a promotion to the rank of Sergeant.

Safwan Khan from New Hyde Park and assigned to the 442nd Military Police Company received a promotion to the rank of Private First Class.
