Landon Bell Jeffers, a longtime Manhasset resident, died on Sept. 1 at the age of 72 of cardiac arrest.  He had been battling pancreatic cancer for 14 months.

Jeffers grew up with three siblings in Plandome, attending Manhasset public schools, and later studied at Mount Hermon School and Dartmouth College.

He was the second child of Mary “Wally” Jeffers and Walter Jeffers.

In 1978, he married  Kathleen Murphy, also of Manhasset. The two divorced in 1997, but planned to remarry this month.

He is survived by Kathleen; their daughter, Julia Jeffers Brown; a brother, Chris Jeffers; a sister, Lee Jeffers Brami; four grandchildren, Lawrence, Jonathan, Ella and Alexander Brown; and six nieces and nephews, Alexander and Penelope Jeffers, Natalie Jeffers Hansen, Elisabeth Brami, Jon Mangion and Sarah Mangion Foxfire. He was predeceased by his sister Gabrielle Jeffers Mangion.

He worked as an equity trader, most recently employed by Neuberger and Berman.

He was an avid singer, participating in the choirs at Congregational Church in Manhasset, All Saints Church in Great Neck, Christ Church in Oyster Bay, and in the Long Island Choral Society.

Jeffers was a leader in local Alcoholics Anonymous and Nicotine Anonymous groups.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, 61 Main St., Oyster Bay.  A reception will follow in the church parish hall.

He requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to support his oncologist Dr. Howard Bruckner’s work on pancreatic and ovarian cancer.  Donations can be sent to the MZB Center for Cancer Research at 2330 Eastchester Rd., Bronx, N.Y. 10469.
