Lord & Taylor hosts charity events year round, but twice a year it offers the Shop Smart, Do Good event giving customers discounts throughout the store in exchange for a few dollars toward local charities.

Event coordinator Phyllis Papagianopoulos said 43 charities are involved in this fall’s event from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Nov. 10, including East Hills School, Temple Beth-El of Great Neck, North Shore Family & Guidance Center and Nassau Suffolk Services for Autism, and $5 donation tickets can be purchased either at the store in Manhasset or from one of the participating charities.

Proceeds from the ticket sales through Lord & Taylor will be divided among the groups, and funds from sales directly through the charities will stay with that organization.

In addition to giving back, Papagianopoulos said it helps show the community what the  department store has to offer.

“It’s a way to bring customers in as well and offer them whatever we can to make them aware of all we have,” she said. “It’s an exciting, fun-filled day of shopping for everyone to enjoy and give back.”

Throughout the day, Papagianopoulos said, shoppers will be offered free makeovers, refreshments and entertainment as well as 15 percent off beauty products and in-store gifts with purchases.

Businesses from across the North Shore will set up shop in Lord & Taylor that Friday. Flower Creations of Roslyn will create a floral display wall for the event, Blast Spa and Fitness in Great Neck will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with consultations and raffle prizes, and Manhasset Chiropractic will offer complimentary chair massages from noon to 6 p.m.

Diane’s Bakery of Roslyn, Green Pear Caterers and JCB’s Artisan Confections will provide light snacks throughout the day, and the Great Neck School of Dance will perform at 5:15 p.m. followed by artists from the George Gershwin International Music Competition.
