Nassau County Police are investigating the fatal drowning of a 61-year-old man at Manorhaven Beach Park Monday.
Scott Santomero, the Police Department’s public information officer, said the victim went to the beach with a 43-year-old friend. The victim left his friend on the beach to swim in Manhasset Bay.
The friend was then unable to find the older man and searched the bay where he found the victim face down in the water at 2:27 p.m., police say.
Unable to get his friend to shore on his own, the younger man requested the help of a lifeguard. The victim was then transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The victim has not been identified and the cause of drowning has yet to be determined.
