Former Williston Park Village Trustee and Herricks school board member Kevin Dunn died  this month after a long battle with cancer, which developed from his involvement in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks as a lieutenant with the New York City Fire Department. He was 58.

His death was reported by Williston Park Mayor Paul Ehrbar, who said, “He will truly be missed by the village.”

Dunn grew up in Williston Park and attended Herricks High School. He later raised his family in Williston Park.

He served as a village trustee from 2006 to 2010.

Ehrbar first met Dunn in 1994 at Herricks Board of Education meetings, he said. Dunn served on the board from 2008 to 2009. He ran again in 2012 but dropped out for health reasons.

He was an active member of Herricks athletics as well, and coached Williston Park Little League baseball.

Dunn had a “very friendly, easygoing personality,” Ehrbar said.

“He had a very positive attitude in dealing with his health issues,” he added.

Dunn is survived by his wife, Tina, and four sons, John, Mathew, Thomas and Daniel.

Efforts to reach his family were unavailing.
