Two teenagers were struck shortly after 6 p.m. on Feb. 8 by a Nassau County patrol car in Manhasset and one was taken to the hospital with head injuries, police said.

According to a Nassau County Police Department news release, a county officer was driving along “a dimly lit portion” of Community Drive and hit two young men, a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old, who were walking northbound on the roadway and were wearing dark clothes.

Police officials said the department does not reveal names of victims and is not releasing the name of the officer.

The 19-year-old was transported to an area hospital via police ambulance with serious head injuries, and the officer was also transported to the hospital. The 17-year-old refused medical attention at the scene of the accident.

The officer’s vehicle was impounded  for brake and safety inspections but police said they “suspect no criminality at this time.”
