Two people were arrested in Manhasset Sunday on larceny charges of stealing from Americana Manhasset’s Louis Vuitton shop, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

After the initial arrest, police later found the suspects, John Thomas of Manhattan and Maria Balento of the Bronx, had allegedly stolen from the luxury retailer on a previous occasion as well as from Giorgio Armani, police said.

Thomas, 49, and Balento, 42, were arrested during a traffic stop after Louis Vuitton staff reported a theft in progress and responding police officers broadcast information about the suspects and their vehicle.

Police found stolen items in the defendants’ car, a Police Department report said.

Both Thomas and Balento were charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument and criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said. Thomas also faces a false personation charge, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

They were arraigned Monday in at the Nassau County District Court in Hempstead.
