Manhasset School District celebrated Homecoming 2018 on Saturday, Sept. 22. School spirit was on display for all those who lined up along Plandome Road for the annual Homecoming parade to see.
This spirit carried over to the field of play, as the Manhasset High School Varsity Football Team scored a convincing 49-13 victory over Herricks in the annual Homecoming game. Faithful fans in the stands were sent home smiling.
Manhasset stormed to an early lead and never looked back. Quarterback Tim Barrett opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run and Aidan Mulholland followed with touchdown runs of 38 and 57 yards. Joseph Mulholland returned an interception 67 yards for another first-half score, and Stefano Troia added a 55-yard interception return of his own for yet another touchdown. Peter Lapina also blocked a punt for a touchdown and Michael Farrell’s second-half run of 24 yards closed out the scoring for the day.
The nations of the world took center stage in the annual Homecoming parade, as each of the four classes of Manhasset High School created a float that represented a prominent country. Congratulations to the seniors, who captured first place in the float competition with their U.S.A. float. Juniors finished second for their float of England, while sophomores representing Italy took third place, and the freshman class finished in fourth with France.
The cheerleaders and marching band gave outstanding halftime performances, with the band playing to the backdrop of a “Pirates of the Caribbean” theme.
Prior to Saturday’s festivities, Manhasset High School celebrated Spirit Week with various themed days, including Jersey Day and Blue and Orange Day. The week finished off with the annual pep rally, serving as the perfect lead into a happy and well-celebrated Homecoming Saturday.
